This idea started as a joke. Currently, I am in the process of building a usable prototype, which will be the 4th iteration of the device. Essentially, it is a recyclable plastic cup, the top for which features space to accomodate food. I have experimented with different models, from a full sized plate aligned concentrically with the center of the cup, to a sort of saddlebag side piece to reduce the size. Regardless of the specific details of the design, I think that this product could be beneficial environmentally as well as for food vendors and consumers alike. I see the market for the Cup Plate (this is a working name) in sports stadiums and possibly movie theaters. For consumers, the task of carrying concessions items back to one's seat is made easier by this device, especially if carrying items for one's spouse and 8 children. Back at the seat, the cup fits into the holder that was designed to accomodate it, and there is no need to balance a nacho tray or flimsy hotdog boat across one's knees. From the vendor side, this device can stack easily and eliminates the need for multiple receptacles (and the need to purchase these, possibly from different suppliers). Everyone wins.
